Evan R. Cole joined Oak Tree Law in January 2016. He is an associate attorney in the litigation department focusing on debtor-side mortgage banking litigation, including matters involving lender and servicer liability, quiet title, asset protection and residential unlawful detainer. His clients come to him in distress; they are borrowers or debtors who made bad decisions or were the victim of predatory lending practices. Some were duped by pressure sales tactics into taking loans or purchasing property they couldn’t afford by the very lenders who are now seeking to take away their property. Others were taken advantage of by people who fraudulently obtained claims to their property or tricked them into a transfer. He can provide options for these clients.
Evan enjoys being afforded the opportunity to help people retain their homes and debtors to land on their feet as softly and safely as possible, finding the best settlement or payment plan for clients who could not otherwise get big banks or other financial institutions to the negotiating table. He believes that one bad decision shouldn’t ruin a life forever, and that his clients deserve a second chance, which is what he tries to give them.
Prior to coming to Oak Tree Law, Mr. Cole gained experience working for several years as both a law clerk and litigation counsel in various areas of practice, including plaintiff’s subrogation and insurance defense work. This experience taught him how important it was for him to be working on the plaintiff’s side, fighting for those who had been harmed.
Before law school, Mr. Cole worked in marketing and recruiting. But ultimately, as a third generation attorney, Evan wanted to continue his family’s tradition of law practice, so he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and entered law school in 2009.
Mr. Cole was admitted to the practice of law in the State of California and to the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 2014, after attending Willamette University College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2012 and served as a moot court board member, President and Assistant Editor of the Sports Law Journal, and a writer for Willamette Law Online. He received his undergraduate degree in Communications from Arizona State University in 2002 and a Master’s in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville in 2004.
Mr. Cole is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has been a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the South Bay Bar Association, and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. He enjoys golf and travel and is an avid sports fan.
