Biography
Iman Sorat is an attorney at Oak Tree Law where he helps clients with Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases, assists homeowners who have fallen behind on their loans to negotiate with their bank and to prevent their homes from going into foreclosure, and helps debtors obtain settlements of their outstanding debt, whether that debts arise from credit cards, medical debts or home loans.
Iman works with individuals, families and small businesses who are in a bad situation, have large personal debt or behind on their mortgage and feel the odds are stacked against them; they are overwhelmed and intimidated by big banks or credit card companies. He helps them to protect their home or provide breathing space to make past due payments to get back on their feet. He stops wage garnishment and delays or stops pending foreclosure.
Mr. Sorat’s varied legal experience includes criminal and family law, contracts, unfair business practices, civil litigation and worker’s compensation as well as bankruptcy. He enjoys working with clients and showing them that they have options where they thought they had none. He is gratified by the look of relief on her clients’ faces when he advises them that their situation might not be as desperate as they first believed. For Iman, every day is different; each client presents a unique situation and he enjoys the challenge of assessing the client’s problem and finding the right solution for real people who have real problems. He enjoys finding clear cut solutions for clients who are overwhelmed and being someone who can help clients find a solution for a problem that they have been thinking about day and night.
Mr. Sorat was admitted to the practice of law in the State of California and to the United States District Courts for the Central District of California in 2011. He has been a member of the California Applicants Attorney Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is an active volunteer with the Public Counsel Law Center Bankruptcy Self-help Counter where he offers advice and answers questions for individuals who are representing themselves in bankruptcy matters. He has also been a volunteer for the Santa Ana Public Law Center Immigration and Naturalization Workshops, answering questions on immigration matters.
Iman attended Chapman University School of Law, where he received the C.C. Chapman Memorial Merit Scholarship. He wrote an article for the Chapman Law Courier in 2009, highlighting an alumnus of the school, Emmet Ashford, who broke the color barrier for major league baseball umpires. He was also the Senior Editor of the NEXUS Law Journal and participated in the Constitutional Law Clinic. He graduated from Chapman with his Juris Doctor in 2010. Mr. Sorat also attended the University of Arizona, where he graduated with a B.A. in History and Political Science in 2006.
Mr. Sorat is fluent in both Farsi and German, and he enjoys history, soccer, movies and fantasy baseball.
